Easy to use5

I bought this scope for my neighbor's kids as a Christmas present. They (along with their dad) had very little experience with telescopes so I expected it would take some time (along with a little help from me) to get this scope up and running. I was wrong. The very night I gave it to them they (actually the dad) set it up and enjoyed looking at the moon with it. They didn't need me at all. In fact I have yet to look through the scope myself. They tell me it's fantastic. It certainly struck me as a serious well-made scope when we took it out of the box. The fact that it is so easy to use makes it a really great scope.More detail ...

Celestron SkyScout Personal Planetarium

Great way to start to learn the night sky!5

I ordered my SkyScout in September hoping that the initial rush on this item was over and that it would be in stock (as listed) when I ordered it. Sadly it was actually out of stock and took a few months to arrive. The unit powered up and seemed to function but was unable to get a GPS fix in a clear field. Hoping that it was a simple matter of updating the unit I attached it via USB to my computer and followed the simple directions on the screen. It updated quickly and easily but I still was unable to obtain a GPS fix. Using the instructions provided I contacted Celestron and was directed to return the unit to them for evaluation and repair. Less than two weeks passed when a new unit straight from Celestron arrived in the mail. This one worked perfectly and as advertised and without any problems!

Now that I've actually used my SkyScout I can say that it is great fun to use! Now December and January in Wyoming isn't the best time of year to be outside at night...wind chill last night was -40F for example but the SkyScout still works like a champ. Multiple modes of function exist as listed in the description but my personal favorite is being able to identify just about anything you can see with the naked eye in the night sky. Just view the object through the sky scout push a button and you'll get the name of the object as well as at least a few lines of text of information. Brighter objects or better known objects also have an audio commentary that will teach about the history and/or significance of what you're looking at.

While I was disappointed about my first SkyScout not functioning properly the quick customer service and the replacement working flawlessly have overcome my initial disappointment. The SkyScout is quite simple to use and provides a great way for anyone who can read to start to learn the night sky. I highly recommend it for individuals with an interest in astronomy families star parties and youth groups such as the Boy Scouts.More detail ...

Great Portable Telescope5

I was looking for an affordable and portable telescope so that I can easily set up without taking too much time. A friend recommended this so I decided to purchase this (for $50 I can't go wrong). I was skeptical at first but that went away when I unpacked this. The telescope is 3" which is better than the 60mm telescope one usually sees in this price range. It came with 2 decent eyepieces (2 decent eyepieces by themselves already costs around $40 - $50). It was easy to put together as it was ready to use out of the box. For the price I paid the base was well made like a dobsonian. It had a smooth swiveling motion so that I can easily point it at celestial objects and tracking it by gently pushing the tube. I was able to see Jupiter and its moons Saturn craters on the moon and on a clear night the Orion nebula. The images were brighter when I compared it to my friends 60mm telescope becasue this is a 76mm telescope. I am very pleased with my experience with this telescope and the price is great. It doesn't take long to set up so when I feel like just going outside to take a look at a celestial object i can easily do it. My 9 year old daughter loves it too. Definitely a telescope I would recommend to anyone who is interested in looking at the night skies.More detail ...

Celestron 93588 Astro Night Vision Flashlight

Perfect Compliment to a Night Out5

Because of it's non-intrusive red lighting and especially because of its size and brightness control this is the perfect little light to bring out in to the field for observing. One caution; make sure you have the lanyard securely around your wrist especially if you're shining the light down a tube to collimate. One slip and it'll be headed toward your primary!More detail ...

Orion Moon Filter 13% Transmission 1.25"

An excellent filter for beginniners!4

This moon filter is a great way to explore the moon for beginniners! This filter can reduce the glare of the bright moon so you can explore the moon easily. But for experts I would recommend to get a Orion Poliarzing Filter (...). This is because somtimes the moon is too dark. With a poliarzing filter you can adjust the filter from 1-40%. For beginniners I would strongly recommened this filter but for experts I would get a Poliarzing filter.More detail ...

Sky-Watcher GreatStart 130N-EQ2 Newtonian Reflector Telescope

Great optics for the price!5

This is a great deal for this telescope. I found that the 130mm or a little over 5" optics produces great detail on objects like the moon Jupiter Saturn or the great Orion nebula. I have looked through several telescopes in the past in various price ranges and I have to say that this is one of the best for a telescope under $100. It also has a very decent mount and tripod stable for what you pay for. I found it easy to point and manually track celestial objects. One of the best buys I ever made.More detail ...

Celestron 44104 500x Power Advanced Biological Microscope

This is an Good Quality Instrument5

I was pleasantly surprised when the Celestron 44104 arrived. I have not used a microscope since high school biology. I had always wanted to have a microscope but could never justify the cost. This year while purchasing presents for others I decided to buy this for me.

I am glad I did. This instrument is a good quality 'heavy' type of device and comes with the electric illumination device. Funny I did well with just the included mirror light up the slides.

To save money check out the Celestron 44102. As near as I can tell that is this model minus = 12.5x eye piece blue filter and the AC light thing.

I did not get a faulty case either I contacted their customer service which was great by the way and the one star review is not by any means a bad reflection on the company and they sent me a new one. The new case fit exactly the same and since I was still not pleased I returned both cases in the box they sent the replacement in with their prepaid postage sticker.
